Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci was born on December 12, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast. She holds the record for being recognized with 10/10 scores in an Olympic competition. Bela Karrolyi who was the Romanian gymnastics coach who later became her coach later in life, discovered her at age six. In 1969, she competed at the Romanian Junior Championships and placed 13th. In 1970, she won the title. She took home three golds at her very first contest, a junior pre-Olympic meet in 1972, which was a communist bloc countries. The following year, 1973 as well as 1974 she won the junior all-round champion. When she competed for the first time at the senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva of Russia won five gold medals aswell being awarded a silver. She was the first female ever to successfully perform a backwards double salto while dismounting from an uneven parallel bar.
